The Gombe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said it has adopted consensus arrangement to elect the party’s candidates for various elective offices ahead 2027 general elections. The party arrived at the position after a high-level strategic meeting convened by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, with governorship and National Assembly aspirants in the state. The meeting, held late Tuesday night at the Government House, Gombe, brought together both declared and prospective aspirants under the APC platform, in a renewed effort to strengthen internal unity and promote consensus ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Daily Trust reports that the discussions focused on deepening party cohesion, enforcing internal discipline, and adopting a collective approach to the emergence of candidates for various elective offices. Speaking at the meeting, Governor Yahaya, who is also the leader of the APC in the state, urged stakeholders to remain united and committed to the progress of the party, stressing that internal harmony remains essential to sustaining its electoral strength and dominance in Gombe State’s political landscape. He explained that the consultation was part of ongoing efforts by the party leadership to ensure inclusiveness, fairness, and mutual understanding in the candidate selection process, noting that consensus remains a key strategy to prevent internal divisions and post-primary disputes.
According to him, the APC in Gombe State has a responsibility to preserve its tradition of unity-driven politics, which has significantly contributed to its electoral successes over the years. Governor Yahaya further called on aspirants to place the interest of the party above personal ambition, and to work collectively towards a peaceful, transparent, and acceptable process that would strengthen the party ahead of the elections. In their separate remarks, some of the aspirants pledged loyalty to the party leadership and expressed readiness to support any consensus arrangement that would enhance the APC’s chances in the forthcoming elections.
They also commended the governor for providing an open platform for engagement and inclusiveness, describing the initiative as a positive step toward consolidating unity within the party. The meeting is part of a series of consultations being planned by the APC leadership in Gombe State as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
