Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has called for an early and substantive review of International Monetary Fund (IMF) surcharges during his address at the G-24 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting held on the sidelines of the World Bank–IMF Spring Meetings 2026. Speaking as First Vice Chair of the G-24, the finance minister said the global economy continues to face pressure from successive shocks, including recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have disrupted energy markets, fertiliser supply and financial conditions. He stressed the importance of de-escalation and safeguarding key maritime and energy corridors to support global economic stability.

Aurangzeb also supported ongoing discussions on IMF programme design and conditionality, calling for a balance between maintaining macroeconomic stability and allowing flexibility to address risks, while supporting growth and employment. The minister emphasised the need to strengthen collaboration with the World Bank in areas such as job-creating investments, infrastructure development and innovative financing solutions. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to resilience and inclusive growth, while calling for enhanced global cooperation to address emerging economic challenges.
