The internal crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has consumed one of its foremost governorship aspirant,Chief Maurice Vonobolki. A split in alliances was created within the party when the state governor Ahmadu Fintiri defected to the APC. Since then there’s been a tussle for the control of the party’s structure between supporters of the National Security Adviser, Mal Nuhu Ribadu and that of the governor Vunolboki yesterday, resigned his membership of the APC alleging injustice and attempts to impose candidates in defiance to the tenets of democracy.

The guber aspirant announced his stand at a press conference in Yola Tuesday lamenting that despite the assurances of Governor Fintiri and the committee set up to produce framework for the ongoing party congresses, there was no fairness and internal democracy in the process towards choosing candidates. He explained that the decision was arrived at after thorough and wide consultations with the stakeholders and supporters in the interest of Adamawa people recalling that it was such impunity that forced him and his supporters across the 21 local government areas to move out of the People’s Democratic party, PDP on the 23rd of March.2026 to joined APC.

He said,”Recent actions within the party and the Adamawa State government circle further reinforced these concerns. There are credible and evidential indications of irregular membership registrations; using people’s NIN without their consent, aimed at having a large membership voting population in Yola North and coordinated efforts to influence internal processes unfairly. “While assurances were initially given that all aspirants would be granted a level playing field to participate in the direct primary process as contained in the New Electoral Act as amended, current realities suggest otherwise.” He called on all his supporters across the 21 LGAs of the Adamawa State to also withdraw their membership of the APC and await further guidance on our next steps.
