Progressive indigenes of Yobe State, alongside supporters from outside the state, have called on the immediate Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Baba Malam Wali to contest the 2027 governorship election. They described him as the most suitable candidate to lead the state into a new era of inclusive development and administrative excellence. The group, in a statement jointly signed by its coordinators, emphasized that Wali has been a seasoned administrator for decades, with a distinguished record in public service that reflects competence, continuity, and deep institutional knowledge.
The progressive indigenes further highlighted his extensive experience in the state civil service, where he held several key positions, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Youth, Sports and Development; Transport and Energy; Environment; and Administration and General Services. “These roles afforded him a comprehensive understanding of governance across critical sectors, making him uniquely qualified to address the developmental challenges of Yobe State,” the statement added. The group also referenced his tenure as Acting Secretary to the State Government from July 13 to July 16, 2015, and his subsequent confirmation as substantive Secretary to the State Government on May 29, 2019, under the administration of former Governor Ibrahim Geidam.
It noted that his reappointment on July 17, 2019, by the current administration, and his continued service until his recent resignation, underscored the confidence successive governments have placed in his leadership abilities and administrative capacity. They further emphasized that beyond his official responsibilities, Wali is widely known for personally encouraging and supporting youth educational ambitions, mentoring young people and facilitating opportunities that promote academic and professional development. They urged political actors, community leaders, youth groups, and the electorate to rally behind him, emphasizing that his emergence would guarantee sustained development, improved service delivery, and strengthened governance structures.
“We firmly believe that Baba Malam Wali represents the bridge between experience and forward-looking leadership. His candidacy offers Yobe State a rare opportunity to consolidate gains and chart a more prosperous future,” the statement concluded. The group reaffirmed its commitment to mobilizing support across all local government areas and beyond to ensure that Wali answers the call to serve and emerges victorious in the 2027 governorship election.
