A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Tuesday sentenced a 25-year-old miner, Abubakar Ibrahim, to two years’ imprisonment for fake money transfer. The Magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati, handed down the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty, with no option of fine, and ordered him to pay N120,000 restitution to the complainant. She said the punishment would serve as a deterrent.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the complainant, Kulwanu Abubakar, reported the case on January 16 at Nassarawa Gwong Police Station. He said the convict purchased two truck batteries worth N120,000 and claimed to have made a transfer. According to him, the phone number provided by the convict was unreachable when the complainant realised no payment alert was received.

He said the convict was later arrested during a police investigation. The offence contravenes the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
